John Tweedt, 75, Dies
John Tweedt, 75, longtime Estherville resident, died Sunday [June 18, 1967] at 4:10 a.m. at Holy Family where he had been hospitalized for the past several weeks. Mr. Tweedt had been in poor health for the past two and a half years after suffering a stroke.

Born March 27, 1892, in Estherville, John Tweedt was the son of Severt and Olina Tweedt. When nine years old he moved with his parents and family to Huxley. During 1918 and 1919 he served with the World War I forces, 315th Engineers, 90th Division in France.

In 1920 he moved from Huxley to Emmet County and farmed northeast of Estherville. He lived there until 1950 when he retired and moved to Estherville.

He was married June 20, 1920, to Gena Valen. Mr. and Mrs. Tweedt became the parents of three children. Mrs. Tweedt died Nov. 17, 1939.

Mr. Tweedt later was married on Jan. 10, 1945, to Gladys Rullestad of Huxley. After Mr. and Mrs. Tweedt moved to Estherville in 1950, he had worked several years as a carpenter.

He is survived by his wife, Gladys; one son, Rev. Vernon Tweedt of Yorkville, Ill.; two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Marie) Will of Dayton, Iowa, Mrs. Richard (Marjorie) Froisland of Callender; 10 grandchildren; three brothers, Edward of Slater, Burney of Huxley, Roy of Mount Sterling, Ill.; and one sister, Mrs. Lewis (Isabelle) Valen of Estherville.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gena; his parents; infant twin sisters, infant brother and sister, a brother, Christ, and a sister, Martha (Mrs. George Lee).

Funeral services for Mr. Tweedt will Wednesday. A family service will be held at 10:30 a.m. at Furhman Funeral Home. All friends are welcome to attend the service, also.

At 2 p.m. a church service will be held at Palestine Lutheran Church, Rev. Lowell Helstedt officiating. Interment will be in Palestine Lutheran Church.

Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons of Mr. Tweedt, Jonathan Tweedt, Steven Tweedt, Dennie Will, David Will, James Froisland and Jeffrey Foisland.

Active pallbearers will be nephews, LaVerne Valen, Donald Tweedt, Duane Tweedt, Carroll Tweedt, Stanley Lee, and Donald Valen. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, June 19, 1967)
