Hazel Ella Ferguson, the daughter of Alton and Hilda (Carlson) Ferguson, was born Nov. 5, 1907, in Swea City, IA, and departed this life at Holy Family Hospital in Estherville, IA, on Thursday, Mar. 28, 1996, at the age of 88 years, four months and 23 days.
Hazel received her education in the Swea City schools.
On Oct. 2, 1937, she was united in marriage to Harold Sampson in Estherville. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Minneapolis, MN, for three years. They later lived in Hastings, MN, and then farmed in the Dolliver, IA, area for fifteen years. Following Harold's death in 1970, she moved to Estherville where she lived with her daughter and family. In 1994, she became a resident at Rosewood Manor in Estherville.
Hazel was a member of Estherville Lutheran Church and the Deborah Circle. She was a homemaker all her life and enjoyed sewing and baking.
Hazel is survived by one son, Ronald Sampson and his wife, Carol of White Bear Lake, MN; one daughter, Karen Hanson and her husband, Wendell of Estherville; six grandchildren, Todd Hanson, Mark Hanson, Michelle Jacobson, Christy Sampson, Angie Sampson, and Nikki Sampson; five great-grandchildren, Jordan and Taylar Jacobson; Coleton Hanson; and Zac and Tanya Dehaan; four sisters-in-law, Mary Froehle and her husband, Maurice of Bancroft, IA; Gladys Ferguson of Rice Lake, WI; Sylvia Sampson of Estherville; and Vi Sampson of Curlew, IA; three brothers-in-law, Orville Sampson and his wife, Leona; Fred Butterfield and his wife, Irene; and Norman Nelsen and his wife, Wilma, all of Estherville; and several nieces and nephews. She has been preceded in death by her husband, Harold; her parents; two brothers, Dick and Shorty Ferguson; and one sister, Edna Blekfield. (MC)
