Mrs. Henry [Mathilda Jones] Rood died at her home northwest of town Wednesday, February 8th, of pneumonia, and just one week from that day Mr. Rood died of the same disease. They leave five children the oldest being about twelve years of age. A brother of Mrs. Rood [Anton Nybroten] is here and will take the children home with him to Wisconsin. Our hearts go out in sympathy to these fatherless and motherless children. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, February 22, 1911)

-------------------------------

One of the saddest cases that has over come to our notice is that of the death of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Rood, who lived a few miles northwest of Dolliver. Both died of pneumonia. Mr. Rood was very ill when his wife passed away, February 8, and his death occurred eight days later. Five children, three boys and two two little girls are left orphans. They will be cared for by relatives in Wisconsin.
