Estherville – Services for Leona M. [Maude] Herum, 90, of Estherville and formerly of Dolliver, will be held Monday, December 17 at 1:30 p.m. at the Estherville Lutheran Church with Pastors Kermit Rye and Michael Kroona officiating. Burial will follow in the Palestine Lutheran Cemetery near Dolliver. Mrs. Herum died Friday, December 14, 1990 at Rosewood Manor Care Center in Estherville.Leona M. Herum was born October 8, 1900 near Dolliver to Martin J. and Cora (Olson) Iverson. She attended Emmet County Country Schools and graduated from Dolliver High School in 1918. She worked as a teller at the Hillestad Bank in Dolliver until her marriage to Percy B. Herum on December 15, 1921 in Gruver. After their marriage, the couple moved to a farm northwest of Dolliver where they farmed and lived for 42 years. They retired in 1964 and moved into Dolliver. Mr. Herum died on June 3, 1977 and Mrs. Herum moved to Rosewood Manor Care Center in February of 1989. She was a member of Palestine Lutheran Church of Dolliver for many years, and at her death, a member of Estherville Lutheran Church.
Survivors include two sons: Floyd Herum of Ft. Dodge and Columbus, Ohio and Kenneth Herum of Dolliver; seven daughters: Mrs. Arnold (Carol) Saha and Mrs. Harley (Norma) Rosburg, both of Estherville, Mrs. Edward (Vivian) Montgomery of Dolliver, Mrs. Roy (Lila) Resh of Davenport, Mrs. William (Annette) Wenzel of Ceylon, Minn., Mrs. Ellis (Willma) Herrick of Grand Junction and Mrs. Michael (Lois) Swanson of Trimont, Minn.; thirty-eight grandchildren; thirty [great]-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one grandson, twin great grandsons, her parents, one brother, and one sister. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, December 17, 1990)
