Memorial services for Luella “Lue” Stow, 94, of Estherville will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 14 at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Chapel in Estherville with the Rev. Lyn A. Potter officiating. Interment will be held privately by the family. She died on Thursday, April 10, 2003 at the Good Samaritan Center in Estherville.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Sunday, April 13 at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville.

Lue was born on March 26, 1909 in Thor, the daughter of Sam and Minnie (Iverson) Guddall. She attended school in Thor and graduated from Eagle Grove High School.

After receiving her teacher’s certificate from what is now the University of Northern Iowa, she taught at several one-room schools before moving to Dolliver, where she taught in the Dolliver Consolidated School.

Lue married William C. Stow of Dolliver on July 30, 1937. The couple had six children. Lue worked in the family business, Stow Grain Company, for many years.

Later she worked at the L.M> Christensen Store in Estherville. “Grandma Lue” also volunteered in the Estherville Elementary Schools for several years as a story lady. She moved to Estherville in 1987 and became a resident of the Good Samaritan Center in 1998.

Lue is survived by her children, Luann Basart and her husband, John of Ames; Marcia Huntsinger and her husband, Barry of Estherville; Perry Stow and his wife, Judy of North Mankato, Minn.; Jane Abbott of Daly City, Calif.; Mona Strenge and her husband, Steve of Estherville; eleven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and one sister, Thelma Heggen of Edwardsville, Kan.

She has been preceded in death by her husband; one daughter, Patsy; her parents; three brothers; and one sister. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, April 11, 2003)
