Last Rites To Be Friday
Funeral services for Mrs. W.L. Peterson of Dolliver, former Emmet County school teacher, are to be held Friday. A family service will be at 11:30 a.m. at the Dolliver Methodist Church and at 2 p.m. a public service will be held, the Rev. Roger Tappmeyer officiating. Burial will be in the Dolliver cemetery.Mrs. Peterson, 75, died suddenly at her home about 9 a.m. Tuesday [February 7, 1961] after suffering a heart attack. She had not been ill prior to the fatal attack.
Lottie Mitchell was born July 11, 1885 in Franklin County [Sheffield], the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Mitchell. She received her education in the Franklin County schools but spent most of her adult life in Emmet County. She taught school for several years in the Emmet County rural schools and the Maple Hill and Dolliver schools.
She was married on June 20, 1934 to W.L. Peterson at Dolliver. Since their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Peterson had lived in Dolliver.
Mrs. Peterson was a member of the Dolliver Methodist Church and was active in church work and that of the Women’s Society of Christian Service, women’s group of the church. She also belonged to various community clubs and took an active part in community work.
Mrs. Peterson is survived by her husband and two sisters, Mrs. Herman Erickson of Chevy Chase, Md., and Mrs. Samuel Brees of Whittier, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one mother, Lee Mitchell.
Friends may call at Sternborg-Reese Funeral Home from Thursday non until 9 a.m. Friday at which time the body will be taken to the church at Dolliver to lie in state until time of the services. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, February 8, 1961)
