Estherville – Services for Clara E. [Elizabeth] Hunt, 89, of Estherville, formerly of Dolliver, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 8 at the United Methodist Church in Dolliver. Interment will be held at the Lincoln Township Cemetery near Dolliver. She died Friday, August 5 at the Good Samaritan Center in Estherville.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Monday at the Olson Funeral Home in Ceylon and one hour prior to the service at the church.
She was born on February 25, 1906 near Burt, the daughter of William Henry and Sarah (Ames) Schwietert. She attended school in Burt and graduated from Burt High School in 1924. Following graduation she attended Norman Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls and taught country school in the Burt area for four years. She then taught at the Dolliver school for five years. On March 3, 1934, she married Melvin Hunt at the First Methodist Episcopal Church in Sioux Falls, S.D. They lived in the Dolliver area for most of their married lives. Mr. Hunt died on September 1, 1974 and she continued to make her home in Dolliver. She entered the Good Samaritan Center in Estherville in January of 1983.
She was a member of the Dolliver United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and taught Sunday School. She was active in the PTA while her children were in school.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Leon (Sarah) Meyer of Fairmont, MN; Mrs. Marlin (Helen) Mosloski of East Chain, MN; two sons, Marvin Hunt of Dolliver and William Hunt of Muscatine; 17 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Myrtle Schwietert of Fairmont, MN.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three sisters and two brothers. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, August 5, 1995)
