Estherville – Funeral services for Richard M. Hanson, 89, of Estherville will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2008, at Grandview Baptist Church in Estherville with Pastor Joel Jorgensen officiating. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville. Interment will be at Lincoln Township Cemetery in Dolliver.He died Friday, March 21, 2008, at the Good Samaritan Society in Estherville.
Richard M Hanson, the son of Muns and Christina (Bogh) Hanson was born September 15, 1918 in Estherville.
Richard was united in marriage to Mary Baker in Fairmont Minnesota. Richard farmed his entire life in rural Estherville, and worked for Don Billings Excavating. He retired from farming in the late 1970s. His wife Mary, died of cancer in 1985. In 1987, Richard married Hulda Nelson. Following their marriage, the couple made their home on a farm near Dolliver Iowa, until moving back to Estherville in 2005. For hobbies, Richard enjoyed collecting antique cars, gardening, and traveling.
He was a member of Union Baptist Church for many years, and later Grandview Baptist church.
Left to cherish Richard’s memory are his wife, Hulda , of Estherville; children, Harold Hanson of Lake Jackson, Texas, Sandy Hockett and her husband, Bob, and Lorraine Hoffmeyer and her husband, Ron, all of Estherville; 18 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and his twin sister, Ruth Rosenberg, of Estherville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary Hanson, son, Jim Hanson; two grandchildren; and one sister. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 25, 2008)
