Emil R. Eckhart, 63, longtime Dolliver barber, this morning took his own life by slashing his wrists with a razor, according to a report from Dr. E.K. Vaubel, county coroner.Eckhart has been ill and despondent, the coroner reported. He has been ill for some time and had returned Friday from a check up at a Fairmont hospital. He seemed to be in good spirits this morning, according to a report from his wife.
Mrs. Eckhart went out in the garden this morning to pick strawberries. When she returned to the house, she called for Emil, but got no reponse. She reported that she then sent to the bathroom and found the door jammed shut, forced it open and found Eckhart inside with his wrists slashed. He died about 9 a.m., according to Dr. Vaubel.
He was a member of the Methodist church, had barbered in Dolliver for 35 years, and would have celebrated his 64th birthday June 24.
Survivors include his wife, two sons, Bruce of Livemore and Joe, student at Estherville junior college, and a daughter, Mrs. Gordon Person of Fairmont.
