Elmer E. Howard Dies at Age of 79
Elmer E. Howard, 79, a longtime resident of Estherville, died at 8:30 p.m. Saturday [September 26, 1959] at the Origer Nursing home here. A heart condition was given as the cause of death.Mr. Howard was born July 10, 1880 in Oto, Iowa, son of Mr. and Mrs. W.R. Howard. He received his education at Oto. Later he moved to Correctionville with his parents where he lived for a number of years. He moved to Estherville in 1918 and has lived here since. Mr. Howard was united in marriage to Maude Shelton in 1947 at Fairmont.
He has been at the Origer Nursing Home for the past three years.
He is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Nellie Howard of Estherville, Mrs. W.J. Heiter of Portland, Ore., and Mrs. Robert Hobbs of California; four brothers, Ralph of Rockwell City, Ira of Beaverton, Ore.; Albert of Tacoma, Wash.; and O.M. of Santa Cruz, Cal. He is also survived by a nephew, Walter M. Howard of Estherville, and two nieces. He was preceded in death by his wife who died Jan. 16, 1948.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Sandin-Furhman Funeral Home with the Rev. Kathryn Loutzenhiser officiating. Burial will be in East Side Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from this evening until time of the services.
Pallbearers are Henry Mahlum, Glen Pickens, Chales Walz, Harry Jones, Frank Mahan and Homer Cleveland. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, September 28, 1959)
