George Balmer
Welcome, Minn. – Services for George Balmer, 86, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church, Welcome, with the Rev. Marlowe Potter officiating. Interment will be in Lincoln Cemetery, rural Dolliver. He died Monday, Nov. 17, 1986 at the Trimont Community Hospital.Friends may call at the Kramer Funeral Home in Welcome from 2:30-8 p.m. Wednesday; 9-11:30 a.m. Thursday; and one hour prior to the service at the church.
He was born April 14, 1900 at Dike, the son of Martin and Marie (Nielsen) Balmer. As a youngster he moved with his parents to Dolliver. He attended rural school and later Dolliver school. He farmed with his father until 1935. On Dec. 21, 1935 he was united in marriage with Lulu Davis at Dolliver. After marriage they farmed near Dolliver until 1960 when they moved to Welcome. He retired due to ill health in 1971 and moved into Welcome. He was a member of the United Methodist Church; Farm Bureau; International Order of Odd Fellows; Elks, Moose and the Welcome Senior Citizens.
Survivors include his wife Lulu, Welcome; two sons: Merritt, Mason City and George, Aitkins; one daughter Mrs. Steven (Melva) Nelson, Welcome; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters: Mrs. Anna Evans, Estherville; Mrs. Alice Jorgensen, Swea City and Mrs. Raymond (Lena) Senf, Fairmont.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers and two sisters. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, November 19, 1986)
