Mrs. John Osgood Died at Daughters Home in Burlington Sunday
Residents of Orleans will be grieved to hear of the death of Mrs. John L. Osgood, 62, a former property owner at Orleans. Mrs. Osgood died early Sunday [January 2, 1944] morning at Burlington, Iowa where she had been living with her daughter, Katherine, Mrs. W.H. Penrose and family. She had been in poor health for several months and death was the result of a heart attack.

Mrs. Osgood had been with her son, Dr. John Osgood in Estherville and at the cottage on the east shore of Spirit Lake this summer and fall and left in October for Burlington.

The Osgood family resided in Estherville for many years but had spent most of their summers at the Osgood cottage on the east shore of Spirit Lake, where they were known by Orleans residents and summer visitors. During the time that Mrs. Osgood’s son and daughter were attending the University of Iowa, Mrs. Osgood moved to Iowa City and served as house mother at the Phi Kappa Sigma house. She was employed in Chicago for the past year, before coming to the cottage for the summer and fall. (Spirit Lake Beacon, Spirit Lake, IA, January 6, 1944)
