Death of Geo. Kennard
Geo. Kennard died very suddenly at his home in Ellsworth township Sunday [April 3, 1898]morning of asthma of which ailment he had been a sufferer for over a year.

Deceased was born at Glasgow, Scotland, in 1840, and moved to Canada when seven years of age. He settled in Emmet county about twenty-three years ago and hence was one of the pioneers of the county. During the grasshopper period he removed to the Pacific coast where he remained several years but returned to Emmet county eleven years ago, where he has since resided. He leaves a wife and four sons to mourn his death, Thomas, James and John, who are living on the farm and George who is now living at Lathrop, Minnesota. Funeral services were held Monday and the body laid to rest in the West Hill [Oak Hill] cemetery in Estherville. (Emmet County Republican, Estherville, IA, April 7, 1898)

Mr. Kinnard of Ellsworth township, known as “Uncle George Kinnard,” died at his home on Sunday morning after a protracted illness. He was an old settler and will be much missed. He realized the call had come for him to go and he said he was ready. (Weekly Northern Vindicator, Estherville, IA, April 7, 1898)

Death of George Kinnard

George Kinnard, [Sr,] died at his home in Ellsworth township, Sunday morning, April 3rd [1898] at the age of 58 years, 5 months and 3 days. He had been a constant sufferer from asthma for the past year and had been confined to the house since early in the winter. He was born in Scotland. He was a hardworking and industrious man and by his economical practices in every day life had accumulated a snug little sum and leaves his family in comfortable circumstances. Known as "Uncle George Kinnard", he was honest and upright in all his dealings. He was an old settler and will be much missed. He realized the call had come for him to go, and he said he was ready. Funeral services wee held Monday afternoon in the Free Baptist church in Estherville and the remains deposited in the West Side [Oak Hill] cemetery.
