Rites For Mrs. Nelson
Services Today at Estherville Lutheran Church – Resident Here Many Yrs
Funeral rites were held this afternoon at two at the Estherville Lutheran church for Mrs. Lena Nelson, 69, who passed away Monday afternoon at her home after an illness for a little over one years. The Rev. L.A. Mathre officiated at the services. Burial was in Estherville Lutheran [Norwegian] cemetery north of town.

Mrs. Nelson suffered a stroke April 6, 1936 and at times she seemed to be making slow recovery but she never regained the use of her left arm and leg. Sometimes she was strong enough to leave her be and room and sit in a chair in the living room, but again she would suffer a relapse. About three weeks ago she became worse and passed away at 3 o’clock Monday afternoon.

Born in Iowa
Lena Brunsvold, the oldest child of Ole and Kari Brunsvold was born in Fillmore county, Oct. 26, 1867. She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith in the Estherville congregation on Oct. 22, 1882 and has continued her membership in the church ever since. In 1895 she was married to Bernt Nelson and the couple took up its residence on the husband’s farm three miles northeast of Estherville. She has lived there continuously since.

She is survived by her husband and daughter [Mrs. Martin Natterstad], one brother, Alfred Brunsvold of Estherville. She was preceded in death by one son, Adolph Ogden, who died in infancy and two sisters, Mrs. A.A. Brunsvold, who died in Leeds, N.Dak., in 1924 and Clara who died in 1901 at the age of 18.
