Last Rites Monday for Mrs. Nelson
Funeral services for Mrs. C.O. Nelson, long-time Estherville resident, will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Estherville Lutheran church, the Rev. Theodore Maakestad officiating. Burial will be in East Side cemetery.Mrs. Nelson died Friday, Nov. 30 at Metropolitan Hospital in Los Angeles, Calif., after suffering a brain hemorrhage which resulted in paralysis of her entire right side. She had made her home for the past two years with her daughter, Mrs. Glen (Hazel) Brown, of Los Angeles. A funeral service was held Sunday, Dec. 2 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran church in Los Angeles.
The deceased was born June 25, 1873 at Bergen, Norway, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Knute Svennuem [Svennen per husband’s obituary], and grew to young womanhood there.
At the age of 17 she arrived in the United States and came directly to Estherville where she lived until she went to California to make her home with her daughter.
She was married in 1894 to Canute [Knute] O. Nelson of Estherville who during their married life worked for the A.D. Root Lumber company, did bridge construction work and served as street commissioner. Mr. Nelson died Jan. 10, 1940.
Surviving Mrs. Nelson are her daughter, already mentioned; one son, Carl J. Nelson of Seattle, Wash., and one grandson, Everett Frank Nelson. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, December 7, 1956)
