Ben Lande, Longtime Local Resident, Dies
Ben Lande, longtime resident of Estherville, died at 11:50 a.m. today at Holy Family Hospital. Mr. Lande had been in failing health for a long time due to a heart condition and had been hospitalized since July 11. He was preceded in death in 1945 by his wife. Surviving his death is one brother, Martin Lande of this city. A complete obituary and funeral arrangements will be published in tomorrow’s Daily News. Lande Rites Are Friday
Funeral services for Ben Lande, 85, longtime resident of Estherville, who died yesterday at 11:50 a.m. at Holy Family Hospital, will be held Friday afternoon. A family service will be held at 1:30 p.m. at the Sternborg Funeral Home and at 2 p.m. services will be at the Estherville Lutheran Church. The Rev. Norbert Jolivette of Wallingford will officiate in the absence of the Rev. Theodore Maakestad. Burial will be in the Lutheran cemetery north of town.

Ben Lande, the son of Andrew and Inger Lande, was born Oct. 27, 1871 in Illinois and moved with his parents to Estherville when a young boy. He received his education and grew to manhood here.

On Feb. 23, 1907 he was married to Elisa Johnson. Mr. and Mrs. Lande made their home here all through the years where he worked as a drayman until his retirement. Mrs. Lande died Jan. 17, 1945.

Mr. Lande was a longtime member of the Estherville Lutheran Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, four brothers and two sisters. He is survived by one brother, Martin Lande, of this city and a number of nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Sternborg Funeral Home from Thursday afternoon until time of the services. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, August 7, 1957)
