Austin Hatland Died Tuesday
Became a Victim of Pneumonia While Attending Deaf and Dumb School at Council Bluffs
Austin Hatland, son of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Hatland, died last week Tuesday [March 17, 1908] at Council Bluffs of pneumonia. The remains were brought to Estherville Wednesday, and the funeral was held at the Hatland home north of town Friday at 11 o’clock a.m. Rev. Edward Campbell officiating. The remains were laid to rest in the Norwegian cemetery.

Austin Hatland was born in Emmet county August 9, 1891, and has resided in this county with his parents since his birth.

He was at Council Bluffs attending the deaf and dumb school at the time of his death. Mr. Hatland was a bright young man, very conscientious and in every way a noble young man. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, March 25, 1908)
