Held Funeral Services for Hans Halvorson [Halverson] Tuesday
Funeral services for Hans O. Halvorson, 41 years old, were held Tuesday afternoon at the Estherville Lutheran church with the Rev. L.A. Mathre in charge. Mr. Halvorson died last Sunday morning after an illness of many months duration. He had been a member of the Estherville church since 1920.

Hans Olaf Halvorson was born in Strandebanen, Hardanger, Norway, March 27, 1886 [per cemetery records 1885]. There he was as a child baptized in the local church and later also confirmed. He came to this country in 1907, spending some time in Montana and Washington.

After a trip back to his childhood home he settled in Estherville in 1909 and had made his home here since. On Oct. 25, 1913, he united in marriage to Miss Mary Paulson. To this union were born four children, Harold, Jennie, Melvin, and Palmer, all of whom survive, together with their mother to mourn the loss of a loving father.

He also leaves his aged mother, and two sisters and three brothers in Norway. Mr. Halvorson has been failing in health for more than a year and had been confined to his home since before Christmas. (Estherville Democrat, Estherville, IA, May 11, 1927)

Hans Halvorson Passed Away on Sunday Last
After a long illness death came last Sunday, May the eighth to Hans Halvorson. M. Halvorson was born in Norway, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Halvor Halvorson on the 27th day of March, 1886. He has been a resident of this city for the past eighteen years and has been an excellent citizen. He has been engaged while here as a carpenter. He was a member of the Norwegian Lutheran church and an active Christian.

The funeral services are to be held this afternoon from the home at one-thirty and from the church at two o’clock, the Rev. Mathre officiating. Interment will be made in the Lutheran [Norwegian] cemetery north of this city.

He also leaves his aged mother and two sisters and three brothers in Norway. Mr. Halvorson had been in failing health for over a year and been confined to his home since before Christmas. Having confessed his sins and asked God’s forgiveness and also declaring that he himself forgave all, he received the sacrament to the strengthening of his faith in the crucified and risen Jesus Christ as his only stay and hope. A few days later he passed to the beyond falling asleep peacefully Sunday morning, May 8. Funeral services are being held today from the Estherville Lutheran church where he has been a member since 1920. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, May 11, 1927)
