Henry Valen Dies at 65 After Attack
Henry Valen, 65, a lifelong rural Estherville farmer, died early this morning in an ambulance en route to Holy Family Hospital. He had suffered a heart attack.

The son of Mr. and Mrs. A.G. Valen, he was born March 16, 1900, on the farm where he lived until his death. He received his education in rural Emmet County schools and attended Jewel Business College.

He was married Dec. 29, 1940, to Bertha Olson at Graettinger.

He was formerly a deacon of the Palestine Lutheran Church and was, at the time of his death, a member of Estherville Lutheran church. He had been active in church and community affairs and in various farm groups.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Paul of Des Moines and Mark at home; four daughters, Miriam of Minneapolis, Ruth of Iowa City and Linda and Lois at home; four brothers, Gust, Lewis and Arthur of Estherville and Elmer of Seageant, Minn.; and three sisters, Mrs. Nels Walen, Ida Valen and Mrs. Norman Beastrom of Estherville.

His parents and two sisters preceded him in death.

Family services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at Reese Funeral Home, with public services at 2 p.m. at Estherville Lutheran Church, Rev. Roy Hendrickson officiating. Burial will be in Estherville Lutheran Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. Saturday until 11 a.m. Saturday until 11 a.m. Monday, when following the family service, the body will be taken to the church to lie in state. The casket will not be opened following the final rites. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, January 14, 1966)
