Estherville – Funeral services for Vern R. [Rodney] (Rod) Tredway, 81, will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 7, 2006, at Estherville Lutheran Church with Pastor Susan Stone officiating. Military graveside rites by VFW Post 3388 and American Legion Post 91 will be at Estherville Lutheran Cemetery, Estherville. He died on Monday, April 3 at the Good Samaritan Center in Windom, Minn.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at the Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville.

Vern R. (Rod) Tredway, the son of Alvin [Calvin] Vern and Ethel Fern (Irwin) Tredway, was born June 2, 1924, in Estherville.

He received his education in the Estherville schools, graduating from Estherville High School. Following a tour in the United States Coast Guard during World War II, Rod returned to Estherville.

On Dec. 14, 1947, he was united in marriage to Norma Tredway [Myhre]. The couple were together over 55 years and made their home in Estherville where Rod worked for Thomas Motors and Lyman Oil Company before operating his own business, the Standard Oil Tank Wagon Service from the early 1960s until 1972. Following a move to Cherokee, where he owned the Coast To Coast Hardware Store, he returned to Estherville in 1979, working for the State of Iowa before his retirement. Norma died Nov. 7, 2003.

In his younger years, Rod enjoyed flying his own airplane. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing most of his life. Rod had a great sense of humor and love playing practical jokes. He was a confirmed coffee drinker and loved to eat Norman’s cookies, pies and cakes.

Rod was a member of Estherville Lutheran Church and VFW Post 3388 in Estherville.

Left to cherish Rod’s memory are his children, Kathy Culp and her husband, Tim of Lakeville, Minn.; Steve Tredway of Spirit Lake; Linda Eisenmenger and her husband, Mike of Windom; eight grandchildren, Crysta and Alex Culp; Clay and Samantha (Sam) Tredway; Nathan, Matthew, Nicholas and Adam Eisenmenger; and sister, Linda Stove and her husband, Bill of Eatonville, Wash.

He has been preceded in death by his wife; parents; brother, Bob; and sister Elaine. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, April 5, 2006)
