Estherville – Funeral services for Elizabeth “Bettie” Stueland, 84, of Estherville will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 1 at Grandview Baptist Church in Estherville with the Rev. Joel Jorgenson officiating. Interment will be at the Estherville Lutheran Cemetery in Estherville. She died on Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2003 at Rosewood Manor in Estherville.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. this evening at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville.

Elizabeth was born on Nov. 22, 1918 in Oklahoma City, Okla., the daughter of Elton Joshua and William Jessie (Dunaway) Fowler. She graduated from Claussen High School in Oklahoma City. Later she graduated from business college.

In 1949, Bettie moved to Estherville. On July 21, 1953, she was united in marriage to Alvin (Doc) Stueland at Jackson, Minn. The couple made their home in Estherville and Bettie was employed at the Chamber of Commerce, Rhodes Motors, Iowa Finance and several attorneys’ offices in Estherville.

She was also employed at AVCO Finance where she eventually was promoted to assistant manager until her retirement. Mr. Stueland died March 27, 1972.

Later Bettie went back to work at Rosewood Manor as a dietary aide until the age of 76.

Left to cherish Bettie’s Memory are her children, John Heckard and his wife, Joan; Betty Jo Tuttle and her husband Bob; Marcia Howard and her husband Clint, all of Estherville; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Preceding Bettie in death were her husband; one great-granddaughter; parents; two brothers; and one sister. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, October 31, 2003)
