LeRoy Richard Killed in Action in Philippines
Was in U.S. Army Only 8 Months
Pvt. LeRoy Richard, 19, of the United States infantry was reported today, as killed in action May 12 on Luzon according to a telegram received today by his uncle, Charles Bergeson of 15 North 3rd street.

Surviving Private Richard are his mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. George Richard of Des Moines, Maurine, a sister also of Des Moines, and four brothers, Corporal Dale, Merle and Duane, all living here in Estherville, and Corporal LaVerne, who is with the marines in Italy.

Corporal Dale Richard is here now on a 60-day furlough after being a prisoner of war in Germany.

Memorial for LeRoy Richard To Be Held Sunday
Memorial services for Pvt. LeRoy Richard of Estherville, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Richard of Des Moines, will be held Sunday [May 1, 1945] at 2:30 p.m. at the Baptist church.

Private Richard was killed in action May 12 on Luzon.

Pvt. Dale Richard, a brother is home on furlough and will be able to attend the services. Another brother, Corp. Laverne Richard, is with the marines in Italy.
