Estherville – Funeral services for Fern Peterson, 85, of Estherville will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 17, 2005 at Estherville Lutheran Church in Estherville with Pastor Susan Stone officiating. Interment will follow at Estherville Lutheran Cemetery in Estherville. She died Thursday, Dec. 15, 2005, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Chapel in Estherville.

Fern Elizabeth Skow, the daughter of Magnus and Katherine (Bogh) Skow, was born Nov. 21, 1920, near Swea City.

She graduated from Seneca High School.

In 1941, Fern was married to Gerhard Peterson. The couple made their home in Estherville and she was employed at Land O’Lakes and Estherville Foods. In her leisure time she enjoyed crocheting. Gerhard died March 18, 1979.

Fern was a member of Estherville Lutheran Church where she also belonged to ELCW. Fern was also a member of VFW Post 3388 Auxiliary and the Good Samaritan Center Auxiliary.

Grateful for having shared Fern’s life are her children, Gary Peterson of Estherville; Connie Hattle and her husband, John of Armstrong; Kathy Tangen and her husband, Ronald of Worthington, Minn.; four grandchildren; Beth Cejka and her husband, Jim; Amy Hattle; Joshua Tangen and his wife, Amanda; Joseph Tangen and his wife, Bethany; four great-grandchildren: Heidi, Cydnie and Jeffrey Cejka and Thomas Tangen and one sister, Joan Manz of Estherville.

Preceding Fern in death were her husband; parents; two sisters; and one brother, Lyle Skow. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, December 16, 2005)
