Estherville – Funeral services will be held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church for Loretta J. Olson, 74, of Oak Harbor, Wash., who died at a daughter’s home in Oak Harbor April 3.

The Rev. Fr. Thomas Topf will conduct the service with burial to follow at Estherville Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home. A Legion of Mary Rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, and a parish Rosary will follow at 7:30 p.m.

Mrs. Olson was born near Emmetsburg July 4, 1913, the daughter of Nicholas and Lucy (Schumacher) Laubenthal. She attended school in West Bend, Rodman and Emmetsburg, and achieved her GED in 1970 at Iowa Lakes Community College.

She was married to Edwin J. Olson Nov. 30, 1951, in Estherville.

She worked as a ship fitter during World War II in Oregon building Liberty ships. She moved to north of Estherville in 1951 and lived there until moving to Oak Harbor in 1987. She managed the Community Thrift here for a number of years, and enjoyed playing bingo for recreation.

Mrs. Olson was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and of its Altar and Rosary Society and the Legion of Mary. She was also a member of the Holy Family Hospital Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, KVN Club, and VFW Auxiliary.

Surviving her are two sons and one daughter: Mrs. Duane (Lucy) Tralle Sr. of Oak Harbor; Anthony Olson of Estherville, and Ralph Olson of Buckner, Mo. Ten grandchildren also survive as do three sisters: Cora Nolan and Eva Carrigan, both of Emmetsburg, and Mrs. Winfield (Gertrude) Lancaster of Darlington, Wis.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Edwin, who died Dec. 5, 1986, and her parents, three brothers and four sisters. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, April 6, 1988)
