Mrs. Oliver Myhre Dies at Age of 91
Mrs. Oliver (Gunhild Marie) Myhre, 91, pioneer resident of Emmet County, died yesterday at 1:15 p.m. at Holy Family Hospital where she had been a patient for just a month. Prior to being taken to the hospital Mrs. Myhre had been a resident at the Good Samaritan Home for more than a year. Her death was attributed to complications of advanced age.

Born May 12, 1870 at Hesper in Winnishiek County, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Uldrickson Solberg, Gunhild Solberg was the eldest of a family of seven brothers and sisters, all of whom have preceded her in death. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith at the Big Canoe Church in Winneshiek County and when just a year old, traveled with her parents in a covered wagon to Emmet County. The family homesteaded a farm west of Wallingford. At that time there were no other persons living between the Solberg homestead and Estherville although some early settlers had homesteaded along the river near Wallingford.

When a young girl the former Gunhild Solberg was confirmed at services held in the old Emmet County Courthouse as the Estherville Lutheran Church had not been built at that time.

Gunhild Solberg was married July 13, 1893 to Oliver Myhre in her parent’s home west of Wallingford. The couple farmed in that area until Mr. Myhre’s death in 1928 [1926]. Mrs. Myhre continued to live on the farm until 1930 at which time she moved to Estherville. She made her home in town until her health failed and she was taken to the Good Samaritan Home.

Mrs. Myhre is survived by two sons, Archer of rural Estherville; Irvin of Nevada, Iowa; one grandson, Elwyn Myhre and three great grandsons.

Funeral services for Mrs. Myhre are to be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Estherville Lutheran Church, the Rev. L.A. Mathre officiating. Burial will be in Fairview cemetery at Terril.

Friends may call at the Sandin-Fuhrman Funeral Home Wednesday and until noon on Thursday at which time the body will be taken to the church to lie in state until time of the services.

Pallbearers are to be Chester Anderson, Sam Natterstad, Trvgve Larsen, all of Wallingford, Herman Zerke, Melvin Johnson and Delbert Johnson. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, February 13, 1962)
