Estherville – Funeral services for John P. [Peter] Jacobson, 71, of Estherville, will be held 1 p.m. Monday, April 24, 2006, with the Rev. Joel Jorgensen officiating. Interment will be held at Estherville Lutheran Cemetery with military graveside rites by VFW Post 3388 and American Legion Post 91 of Estherville. He died Tuesday, April 18, 2006 at Avera Holy Family Hospital in Estherville.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Henry-Olson Funeral Home in Estherville.

John P. Jacobsen, the son of Viggo and Sarah (Martyr) Jacobsen, was born Dec. 21, 1934, on a farm in Lost Island Township.

On April 15, 1955, he was united in marriage to Francine Dahna in Blue Earth,Minn. John served in the United States Air Force for 20 years. The couple spent time in Texas, Kansas, Georgia, Alaska and California. The couple then returned to Estherville in 1987. Francine died in 2002.

John was a member of the V.F.W. in Estherville.

Left to cherish his memory is his son, Randy Jacobsen of Estherville; six daughters, Jackie Ferguson of Ringsted; Christine Carlile of Estherville; Robin Jacobsen and Donell Weatherby both of Liberal, Kan.; Lorie Jacobsen of Estherville and Leslie Jacobsen of Bartow, Fla.; a brother, Stan Jacobsen of Berkley, Calif.; sisters, Carol Dresser of Pipestone, Minn.; Nancy Rogers of Windom, Minn.; sisters-in-law, Gloria Busch, husband, Dennis of Ringsted; Jeanette Getting of Youngstown, Ohio; 16 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He has been preceded in death by his wife, parents, step-father, Clarence, daughter-in-law, Diane Jacobsen, sons-in-law, Leon Weatherby, James Ferguson and brothers-in-law, Donald Dahna and Jerry Getting. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, April 20, 2006)
