Estherville Man Killed
Estherville – James Herbrandson, 26, Estherville, died Feb. 11 in a Shakopee hospital after a two-vehicle collision on U.S. 169 between Shakopee and Jordan, Minn.

Authorities said a van driven by Herbrandson struck a parked truck owned by a telephone company about 1:20 p.m. Monday. Herbrandson was alone in his vehicle.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the Estherville Lutheran Church with the Rev. Harold Brown officiating. Interment will be made in Estherville Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call at Reese-Henry Funeral Home, Estherville, after noon Wednesday until 9 a.m. Thursday.

Mr. Herbrandson was born March 17, 1947 in Estherville to Mr. and Mrs. Norman Herbrandson. He was educated in Estherville schools, was graduated from Ceylon High School and was currently attending Iowa Lakes Community College at the time of his death.

He was married to Pamela Schmidt Aug. 23, 1969 in Ceylon. At that time he was serving in the U.S. Army and the couple went to Germany after their marriage, returning to Estherville in August, 1970. He had been employed by K and M Sales Co. since that time.

He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Estherville, and active in the choir, and also a member of the V.F.W.

Survivors include his wife, Pamela, of Estherville; his mother, Mrs. DeEtta Erickson of Ceylon; one son, Jeffrey, 3, at home; one brother, DeWayne Herbrandson, Minneapolis; one sister, Mrs. John (Patsy) Bode, Minneapolis; five stepbrothers, Merlyn Erickson, Stillwater, Minn., David Erickson, Redwing, Minn., Selmer Erickson, Jackson, Edward Erickson, Elma, Iowa, and Kermit Erickson, Bemidji, Minn.; five stepsisters, Mrs. David St. John, Fairmont, Mrs. Donald Moore, Spencer, Judy Erickson, Minneapolis, Mrs. John Petersen, Denver, Colo., and Kathy Erickson, Sleepy Eye, Minn.; and his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Caroline Herbrandson, Estherville.

He was preceded in death by his father and one infant daughter, Jodee Jane [Jean]. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, February 12, 1974)
