Marie Sophie Geitzenauer, the daughter of John C. and Anna L. (Bass) Geitzenauer, was born August 28, 1917, near Whittemore, Iowa. She passed away Monday, June 26, 2006, at the Good Samaritan Center in Estherville, Iowa, at the age of 88 years.

She received her education in the Whittemore and Lotts Creek schools.

Marie was united in marriage to Edward George on January 10, 1937, in Jackson, Minnesota. After their marriage, the couple made their home in Armstrong, Ringsted and Estherville. Marie worked for Farmers Produce; Butterfield Produce; Land-O-Lakes and Estherville Foods for forty-two years. In her leisure time Marie enjoyed cooking, baking pies, sewing and spending time with family and friends. Ed died February 16, 1986.

She was a member of Estherville Lutheran Church.

Left to cherish Marie's memory are her children, Sandra Jespersen and Richard Christensen of Estherville; Virgil George and his wife, Ilsa of Arlington Heights, Illinois; Gary George of Glenwood, Iowa; Mardell Ayers and her husband, Wayne of Estherville; Be Silverman of Lincoln, Nebraska; four grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and 10 step-great grandchildren.

Preceding Marie in death were her husband, one son, Merlin; her parents; four brothers; one sister; three half-brothers; one daughter-in-law, Harriet and three sons-in-law. (MC)
