Charles Wittern Dies at 76
Charles Wittern, 76, longtime Estherville resident, died at 3:45 this morning after a lingering illness. He was hospitalized at the time of his death.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Sternborg Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Eugene Olson will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery.

Mr. Wittern was born Dec. 8, 1881, near Lake Mills [per 1910 and 1920 census, NY). He moved with his parents to Estherville when a young boy and received his education here. He was united in marriage to the former Laura Unger of Jackson in 1902.

Survivors are two sons, Harold of Estherville and Ordell of Tacoma Park, Md.; two grandchildren, Jack Wittern of Worthington, Minn., and Mrs. Tom (Shirley) Batey of Okinawa; and three brothers and one sister.

He was preceded in death by his wife.
