Christopher Spoo Rites on Thursday
Funeral services for Christopher Spoo, 80, who died Sunday [July 25, 1965] evening in Amery, Wis., will be held Thursday at Immanuel Lutheran church in Estherville, Rev. W.H. Discher.

Family services will be at 10:30 a.m. at Reese Funeral Home and burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be grandsons of Mr. Spoo.

Mr. Spoo was visiting his daughter, Mrs. Leonard Beaver, at Amery when he suffered a fatal stroke at 6:30 p.m. Sunday. He had been in failing health for the past three years.

He was born April 8, 1885, in Fort Dodge, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gerhard Spoo. He moved with his parents as a boy to the farm in Emmet county and attended Emmet County schools.

He was married Nov. 6, 1910, to Martha Meyer at the home of her parents near Terril.

He farmed in this area until his retirement in 1947 when he and Mrs. Spoo moved to Estherville.

He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Estherville.

Surviving are his widow, Martha of Estherville; three sons, Lester of Estherville, Elmer of Gruver and Henry of Upsala, Minn.; four daughters, Mrs. Leonard (Helen) Beaver of Amery, Mrs. Truman (Dorothy) Stone of Sac City, Mrs. Francis (Lucille) Origer of Rochester, Minn., and Mrs. Victor (Agnes) Borlaug of San Jose, Calif.; 25 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; a brother, John, of Estherville; and three sisters, Mrs. Henry Demastri of Estherville, Sister Mary Julia and Grace Spoo of St. Louis, Mo.

Friends may call at the Reese Funeral Home after 6 p.m. today and until 10:30 a.m. Thursday. Following the family services the body will be taken to the church. The casket will not be opened after the service. The family has established a memorial fund. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, July 27, 1965)
