Last Rites Held For Longtime County Resident
Mrs. Christina Sorum was born Feb. 10, 1869 at Lee, Ill., the daughter of Christopher and Betsy Christopher. She died Feb. 15 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Peter Paulson, with whom she had resided for the past three and a half years. She had been in failing health for the past 12 years.

Mrs. Sorum was baptized and confirmed by the Rev. J. Nordby.

On Dec. 5, 1887, she was united in marriage to Brede Sorum. They moved to Emmet county and settled on a farm in Swan Lake township where they lived until March of 1913. At this time they moved to Estherville. Mr. Sorum died in February, 1945.

Survivors are three sons, Clarence, Herman and Ed, all of Estherville; one daughter, Mrs. Paulson with whom she made her home; seven grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, Ben, in 1952, her parents and five sisters.

Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 17, with a prayer service at the home and 2 p.m. services at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran church, the Rev. Benjamin Coltvet officiating.

A quartet composed of Sylvester Berge, Edgar Iverson, Donald Iverson and Eldon Aanonson sang “In the Hour of Trial” and a great grandson sang, “She Will Not Cross Jordan Alone.”

Pallbearers were Simon Paulson, Fred Ehlers, Jno. Quastad Olson, and Adolph Olson. Interment was in Oak Hill cemetery. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, February 22, 1958)
