Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Smith Dies
Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Smith, 85, a resident of Estherville since 1917, died early this morning at the Riverside Rest Home.Mrs. Smith was the youngest of seven children of Joseph [ ] and Elizabeth John Fuller and was born Aug. 1869 at Chatanooga [?], Tenn. When only a baby her father moved to Georgia then to Alabama then to Virginia and back to Tennessee. Mrs. Smith was educated at M--- Academy in Mountain City, Tenn.
Her father died in 1881 [?] and in [ ] Mrs. Smith went to Kansas with her mother. Her mother died in August, 19--. Mrs. Smith then moved to Lerned, Kans. where she operated a millinery business. She had a millinery store in L----, one in L---- and one in H---, Kans.
On Aug. 17, 1912, she was married to Peter Smith, a native of England. To this union was born one son, Paul Terry Smith, now of Houston, Tex. [Wichita, Ks] Mr. and Mrs. Smith moved their family to Estherville in 1917 where Mr. Smith worked for the Rock Island railroad as a conductor for a number of years. He died in 1926.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her son, three grandchildren of Wichita, Kans. and three stepchildren, Charles Smith of Chicago, Mrs. J.F. Skinner and Vernon Smith, both of Lawrence, Kans.
Mrs. Smith was a member of the Christian church for – years.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at – p.m. at the Sternborg Funeral home chapel. The Rev. Clyde Leeds will officiate. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, September 13, 1954)
Mr. and Mrs. Paul Smith of Wichita, Kans., left yesterday to return home after being called here by the death of Mr. Smith’s mother, Mrs. Mary Smith. Funeral services for Mrs. Smith were held Wednesday [September 15, 1954]. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, September 17, 1954)
