Miss Jennie Pingrey Dies at 74
Jennie Pingrey, 73, veteran school teacher in Emmet county, died at 5:20 p.m. yesterday at Holy Family hospital. Miss Pingrey was one of three sisters who served in Iowa schools for many years.

She died of multiple cancerous tumors of the body tissue. She began to fail in health last July and went to Rochester for two weeks after her sister, Maria’s death in December. Since that time she has been confined in Holy Family hospital.

Miss Pingrey, the daughter of Amos and Martha Pingrey, was born Jan 2- 1879 in Estherville. Her father was one of the first -- settle in Emmet county and her father was one of the – who established the [remainder of column on page 1 too faint to read]

[continued on page 6]--lived until 1901 on a farm 2 ½ miles west of Estherville where they were born. Then they moved to a house at 1002 North Eighth street which Maria had built. In 1945 they decided that house was too big for them and they moved to 1009 Second avenue north where they live until their deaths.

Lucy died in 1947 and Maria died on Dec. 17, 1951. Another sister, Mrs. Mary Newton, died in 1950. Surviving are a brother, David Pingrey of Coalinga, Calif.; a nephew, Everett Pingrey of Coalinga; two nieces, Mrs. H.C. Schellenberg of Jackson, S.D., and Mrs. I.D. Steele of Albuquerque, N.M.; a grand niece, Mrs. Wanda Hare of Jackson, S.C.; a grand nephew, Robert Pingrey of Jackson, Miss.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. tomorrow at the Sternborg funeral home. Burial will be in the family lot at Oakhill cemetery. Friends may call at funeral home after 7:30 tonight until time of services. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, January 31, 1952)
