Virgil Otto Found Dead at Wichita
A former Estherville resident, Virgil Otto, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Otto of this city, was found dead last night in a hotel room at Wichita, Kans. Cause of death is not definitely known here, according to Mrs. Otto.Otto, 41, a specialist third class in the U.S. Army and stationed at Ft. Sill, Okla., was on leave from the army and en route to his home at Sioux Falls, S.D. at the time.
Identification of the body has been made by the army, Mrs. Otto states, and it will be shipped to Estherville for funeral services and burial. Arrangements have not yet been completed but will be announced in the Daily News at a later date.
Virgil Otto was born March 10, 19, 1917 at Royal. His parents and family moved to Estherville when he was a small baby. He received his education in the Estherville schools and attended Estherville Junior College for one semester.
In April, 1937, he was united in marriage to the former Evelyn Gerhoff of Estherville. The couple lived here until shortly before World War II when the Ottos moved to California. Mr. Otto had been in the army since that time.
Survivors are, in addition to his parents, his wife, Evelyn of Sioux Falls; two daughters, four-year-old Dawn and Mrs. Charles Immanuel; two sons, Gary, serving in the Air Force and presently on leave at home, and Frank, a senior in the Sioux Falls High School; one grandchild; two brothers, Kenneth of Council Bluffs, Wendell of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and two sisters, Mrs. Richard Grade of Hyannis, Mass., and Mrs. Rex Logue of Fairmont. Otto Rites Saturday
Funeral services for Virgil Otto, former Estherville resident and son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Otto, will be hold at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Union Baptist church. The Rev. Eugene Olson will officiate. Military rites will be conducted by the V.F.W. Post. Burial is to be at Eastside cemetery. The body is scheduled to arrive in Sibley tomorrow afternoon and will be in state at Sternborg’s Funeral Home from tomorrow evening until 10 a.m. Saturday. The body will also be in state at the church from 10 a.m. Saturday until time of services.
