Hans Carl Jensen
Hans Carl Jensen was born Sept. 30, 1900 in Horsens, Denmark, son of Mr. and Mrs. Svend Jensen, and died of heart attack July 4. He had been stricken while pitching horseshoes at a family picnic at his farm home one mile west of Wallingford. He suffered a second stroke shortly after at Holy Family hospital and died.

The deceased received his education in the public schools in Denmark and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church at Horsens. He came to the United States in 1920 and four years later returned to Denmark for a visit.

Sept. 20, 1933, he was married to Flossie Schenck of Estherville, the ceremony taking place in the Little Brown church at Nashua. The couple started farming in Swan Lake township immediately after marriage. March 1, 1939 they moved to their present home where the couple lived until his death. He visited his native Denmark for the last time Dec. 4, 1948 and returned home Mar. 1, 1949.

The couple has one daughter, Effie June, born April 6, 1935. Other survivors in addition to his wife are one sister and two brothers in the United States and three brothers and one sister in Denmark.

Services were held 1:30 p.m. July 7 at the Jensen farm home and at 2:30 p.m. at the Estherville Methodist church, Rev. John DeLong officiating. Burial was at Oak Hill cemetery. Pall bearers were Lester Larson, Ray Ruppert, Albert Hurlburt, Herman Herke, Ralph Schacherer, and Le Roy Schacherer, all of Wallingford. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, July 12, 1949)

Hans Jensen, 48, Victim of Heart Attack
Was Stricken at Family Picnic
Hans Jensen, 48, of Wallingford, was stricken with a heart attack July 4 while pitching horseshoes with relatives at a family gathering. He was taken to Holy Family hospital where he suffered a second heart attack, passing away at 3:00 p.m. He apparently had been in excellent health. He was born in Denmark in 1900 and came to the United states as a young man. He was married to Flossie Schenck, daughter of L. B. Schenck, of Wallingford. He is survived by his wife and by a daughter, Effie June, aged 14. The funeral was held this (Thursday) afternoon at the farm home and at the Methodist church, Estherville. The sympathy of the community is extended to Mrs. Jensen and daughter in their sorrow. (Graettinger Times, Graettinger, IA, July 7, 1949)

Graettinger Friends Husk Corn on Farm of Mrs. Hans Jensen
Graettinger, Nov. 12 – A corn husking bee recently at the farm home of Mrs. Hans Jensen, northwest of town, resulted in finishing the work on 55 acres. Food was furnished by women of the community.

In 6 hours the work was completed by 8 pickers and 31 men.

Mr. Jensen died suddenly last July 4 as the result of a heart attack. Mrs. Jensen and their only daughter Effie will retire from farm life. Effie is a 14 years old and Graettinger school pupil.
