Virgil Marriott Dies Today
Victim of Heart Ailment
Virgil Marriott, 37, Estherville native and son of Mrs. John Campbell, died 4 a.m. today in Holy Family hospital, of blood clot in the heart. He had been suffering from the heart ailment for about a year.

Marriott was a salesman for the Minnesota Woolen company, and had made his permanent home in Estherville ever since his marriage in 1939 except for one year spent farming in Minnesota. He was a Rock Island railroad brakeman here for several years.

He was born Jan. 15, 1912 on a farm east of Estherville, and received his education in the Estherville public schools. At the age of 17 he enlisted in the United States Navy, serving six years. July 1, 1939, he was married to Alice Welcome of Sherburn. The couple has one child, Lea Ann, 9. He was a member of the Church of Christ church.

He is survived by his mother, wife, child and a brother, Harold, who farms near Estherville. Two brothers, Dale and Lyle, preceded him in death.

Services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday in Sternborg funeral Chapel and at 2:30 in the Church of Christ, the Rev. Gordon Hagberg officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, May 26, 1949)

Mrs. Evora Bauer and son, Leland, of Perry, Ervie Wellcome and Mrs. Wanda Johnson of Minneapolis, Mrs. Gertrude Mark of Adel, Mrs. Joe Allen of Arnolds Park, Leland Wellcome of Jefferson City, Mo., Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Hovel of Manly, Mrs. Roy Burns of Clear Lake, Mr. and Mrs. M. McDoughall of Emmetsburg, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Wellcome and Mr. and Mrs. Leon Wellcome and daughter, Florence, of Fairmont, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Wellcome of Welcome, Minn., and Mr. and Mrs. Merlyn Clark of Wallingford.
