Crash aftermath
Estherville Fire and Rescue personnel, along with the Estherville Police, Ambulance and Emmet County Sheriff’s officers used the Jaws of Life to extricate 74 year-old Stan Larson of Estherville. Larson’s car and a semi-trailer owned by M&S Livestock and driven by Stacy Albers of Kiester, Minn., collided at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Iowa Highway Nine and West First Street. Larsen was taken by ambulance to Holy Family Hospital and was later transported by Life Flight Helicopter of Des Moines to St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minn., with severe head and chest injuries. Estherville – Memorial service for Stanley Louis Larsen, 74, will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at the United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tom Balm and the Rev. Max Goldman officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. He died en route to St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minn. on Wednesday, Oct. 30, 1985.Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Henry and Olson Funeral Home.
He was born Oct. 12, 1911 at Ringsted, the son of Louis Hans and Laura (Jepsen) Larsen. He attended Ringsted Grade School and Hinsdale, Ill. High School where he graduated in 1928. He also attended Estherville Junior College. On April 16, 1933, he was united in marriage with Eloise Burt at Estherville. He lived most of his life in Estherville where he worked for P.G. Grey, Estherville A & P Store, Kepler’s Garage, H & O Transfer, but most of his working life was spent as a salesman for Curtiss Candy Co. and Arts-Way Manufacturing. He was an avid bicycle rider and member of the Estherville Bicycle Club. He rode across the state of Iowa eight times on Ragbrai, the last time being last summer.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church; Masonic Lodge; Commandery; Knights Templar; Abu Bekr Shrine and the Town and Country Kiwanis.
Survivors include his wife, Eloise, Estherville; one daughter, Lynn Brix, Pamona, N.Y.; two grandchildren: Andrea DeRosa, Stamford, Conn., and Eric Brix, Reno, Nev.; and one brother, Einer L. Larsen, Downers Grove, Ill., several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one son and his parents. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, November 2, 1985)
