Arthur H. Kateley Dies In Des Moines
A.H. Kateley, 75, well-known former resident of this area, died in the Methodist hospital, Des Moines last night at 6:45. Mr. Kateley was stricken with a heart attack one week ago yesterday and he had been hospitalized since.

Mr. Kateley had been employed by the Rock Island locally until 20 years ago at which time he was transferred to Des Moines. When he retired from the railroad 10 years ago he was a first class machinist.

Kately was born June 12, 1880, in the Ceylon area of which his parents were homesteaders. Arthur Kateley married Hazel Tone, Aug. 27, 1906, here in Estherville, and lived here until going to Des Moines.

Survivors in addition to his widow are one son and daughter, Tone Kateley of Estherville and Mrs. Quentin Hill of Des Moines. Also surviving are one brother and sister, Lucius Kateley of Bingham Lake, Minn., and Mrs. Nellie Helm of Denver, Colo. One son, Romaine, preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Dahlstrom Funeral home in Des Moines tomorrow afternoon. After the services, the body will be brought to Sternborg Funeral home where it will lie in state tomorrow evening and until time of services Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in Sternborg’s chapel.

The Rev. Eugene Olson and the Rev. Warren Steward will officiate for the services Saturday afternoon. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, February 9, 1956)
