Mrs. Carl Jeglum Dies At Age of 90
Mrs. Carl (Ida) Jeglum, 90, pioneer resident of Emmet county, died at 8:35 last night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Elmer Adams. She had been in poor health since October, 1955 when she suffered a stroke.Ida Dorothea Jeglum was born in Emmet County on June 8, 1868, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A.O. Myhre. The family lived at Lyle, Minn., for a number of years where Mrs. Jeglum received her education. They later returned to Estherville and the Myhre’s operated a general store here.
On May 17, 1892, Mrs. Jeglum was united in marriage to Carl Jeglum, who, at that time, was a clerk in the Myhre store. In 1898 the couple moved to Huntington where they operated a general store until 1908 at which time they returned to Estherville. After their return here, Mr. Jeglum operated a store here in partnership with Mrs. Jeglum’s brother, Theo Myhre.
Survivors include two sons, Lloyd of Chicago and Claire of Swarthmore, Pa.; three daughters, Mrs. R.L. (Verda) Hansen and Mrs. Elmer (Dorothy) Adams, both of Estherville, and Mrs. Horace (Gladys) Johnson of Bethesda, Md.; 10 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. H.W. Cox of Los Angeles.
Preceding Mrs. Jeglum in death were her husband, three daughters and her parents.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Estherville Lutheran church, the Rev. Theodore Maakestad officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery.
Friends may call at the Sandin-Fuhrman Funeral Home from tomorrow evening until 11 a.m. Monday. The body will be taken to the church at that time to lie in state. The casket will not be opened following the services. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, May 9, 1958)
