Pioneer Merchant of Estherville Dies in California
John Halvorson who for many years in the pioneer days of Estherville and up until fifteen years ago a resident here passed away at his home in Los Angeles, Calif., the last of the week [February 22, 1929]. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Campbell, a former pastor of the Presbyterian church of this city, and the pall bearers were all Estherville men.

Mr. Halvorson’s dry goods store was located in the old Masonic block where the Cockburn garage now stands west of the federal buildings. Mr. Halvorson was in the land business here. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, March 6, 1929)
