Estherville – Graveside services for John Ebenezer Greig, 92, were held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery, with the Rev. John Besore, III officiating. He died Monday, July 18, 1988 at Holy Family Hospital. Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.He was born April 9, 1896 at Emery, S.D., the son of Hugh S. and Bessie (Stearns) Greig. He moved with his parents to Estherville in 1904. He received his education in Estherville Schools, Macalister College and University of Minnesota. He started work at the Estherville State Bank in 1917 and in 1922 became a partner in the grain business with his father. He was united in marriage with Florence Morse on Nov. 10, 1921. The couple moved to the country in 1936. He was involved in agri-business; purebred Shorthorns which he sold in 1947. He started the firm of Greig & Co., Inc. in 1959.
He was a life member of the B.P.O.E. Lodge, charger member of Estherville Rotary Club, was past president and a Paul Harris Fellow; Charter-Life member of Emmet County Historical Society; served as director in Iowa Trust and Savings Bank, Oak Hill Cemetery; Holy Family Hospital Board, Tri-State Insurance Co., was a founder of Estherville Golf and Country Club.
Survivors include his wife Florence, Estherville; two sons: Hugh and wife Jan, John and wife Connie; three grandchildren, all of Estherville.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, July 20, 1988)
