Cassius H. Elwood Dies
Cassius H. Elwood, 74, lifetime farmer in the Estherville and Spirit Lake vicinities, died at 9:30 p.m. yesterday at his farm home east of Spirit Lake. Mr. Elwood had been in poor health for the past two years, suffering from a heart condition.

Born April 2, 1882 in Jasper County, Cassius Elwood was united in marriage to Almeda Fish of Emmetsburg, Oct. 5, 1904, Mr. and Mrs. Elwood farmed near Gruver for a number of years prior to moving to Dickinson county and the farm near Spirit Lake 28 years ago.

Mr. Elwood retired from farming in 1948 but has continued to live on the farm since that time.

Survivors in addition to his widow include three sons, Roy of rural Estherville, George of Coal City, Ill., and Edward of Irvington; a brother, Fred of Estherville and a half-brother, Alpha Reese of Colfax.

His parents, two brothers and a sister preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Sternborg Funeral home, the Rev. Harrison Dawes officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Hill cemetery.

Friends may call at Sternborg’s from noon Wednesday until time of services Thursday. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, July 31, 1956)
