Former Estherville Lady Passed Away
Mrs. Fred Elginfrits, For Many Years a Resident Here, Died Monday, October 26th.
Mrs. Mary A. Brown, formerly Mrs. Fred Elginfrits and a resident of Estherville thirty years ago, died at Minneapolis on Monday, October 26th, after an illness of only a few days. Estherville people will remember when she was a resident of this city thirty years ago. Mr. Elginfritz died in September, 1900, and in 1912 Mrs. Eliginfritz was married to William Brown and moved to Minneapolis to live. Mr. Brown died a few years ago and since that time she has been making her home with her daughter, Mrs. Verna Leach. Her daughters, Mrs. Edyth Appel and Mrs. J.B. Leach, were with her when she passed away. The remains were brought her for burial on Wednesday and laid to rest beside her husband in Oak Hill Cemetery. Funeral services were held in the Mahlum & Anderson undertaking parlors, conducted by Rev. Olmstead of the Christian church, of which the deceased had been a member since eighteen years of age. She was sixty-nine years of age when she died. She leaves to mourn her passing away three daughters, Mrs. Claude F. Palmer, Burns, Wyo.; Mrs. Edyth Appel, Watertown, S.Dak., and Mrs. J.B. Leach, Minneapolis. Also three sons, Arthur, Harry and Robert Elginfritz, Nashua, Iowa. All were present at the funeral. Deceased has been a very devoted Christian. One son and one daughter had preceded her in death. The many friends of the Elginfritz family in Estherville extend sympathy to the bereaved family. (Estherville Democrat, Estherville, IA, November 4, 1925)

Per the 1925 Iowa Census, her maiden name was Hoggett. A birth record for William Clarence Elginfritz, March 1, 1883, Linn Co., IA, show maiden name as Hodges. The CA death index for Edyth Appel shows her mother’s maiden name as Hogel. A family tree shows Mary Ann Hodgell.
