Simon Lilland Dies Following Long Illness
Simon Lilland, 89, native of Norway and longtime farmer in the Dolliver community, died 9:35 a.m. today at his home in Estherville. He suffered a heart attack about three years ago and had been bedridden ever since. Death was attributed to the infirmities of old age.

He was born Mar. 30, 1860 in Norway and received his education there. After growing to young manhood, he came to the United States and settled at first around Jewel, moving later to the Dolliver community.

June 5, 1895, he married Magdalena Worra who also was a native of Norway. The couple moved to a farm two miles northwest of Dolliver and resided there from the time of marriage until retirement six years ago when they moved to Estherville. Mrs. Lilland died in 1947.

Survivors include two sons, Oswald at Dolliver and August of Orange, Cal.; and five daughters, Mabel and Elma at home, Mrs. Gust Valen of Estherville, Mrs. H.R. Lexvold of Glenwood, Wis., and Mrs. Axel Lundring of Pasadena, Cal., as well as 15 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one grandchild, his wife and parents.

Funeral arrangements have been postponed pending word from relatives in California. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, October 11, 1949)
