Frank Davies, 83, a former resident of Estherville, died in his home at Sioux Falls, S.D., Saturday, August 5. The funeral services were held on Monday at his home in Sioux Falls and on Tuesday afternoon at the home of his daughter Mrs. J.L. Bennett of this city, the Rev. F.W. Ortmeyer officiating.Mr. Davies was born in Liscard Cornwall, England on May 28, 1856. He came to this country in July, 1873. He came to Emmet county in 1902 and resided on a farm adjoining this city at the top of the half mile hill. After ten years of farming on this farm they moved to Sioux Falls.
His daughter, Mrs. Cora Shadle of Newton, by mistake arrived here on Monday for the funeral. There had been a misunderstanding as to the date of the funeral here and she was compelled to leave for her home on Monday evening and could not attend the funeral services.
Mr. Davies is survived by his wife and five children, Mrs. J.L. Bennett and Mrs. T.R. Pullen of this city, Mrs. Cora Shadle of Newton, F.H. Davies and Mrs. S. Bemis of Harrisburg, S.D., who were here for the services. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, August 10, 1939)
Funeral Here Today for Former Resident
Funeral services for Frank Davies, 83, former resident of Estherville, were held Monday at his home in Sioux Falls with the Rev. Elias Wilson officiating and this afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. L.J. Bennett of Estherville. The Rev. F.W. Ortmeyer officiated at the service.Pallbearers were Ralph McKay, Joy Horswell, George Shadle, S.M. Chambers, T.J. Huxtelle of Sioux Falls and S.L. Bemis of Sexton. Burial was made in the Oak Hill cemetery.
Mr. Davies, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Davies, was born in Liscard, Cornwell, England, May 22, 1856 and passed away at his home in Sioux Falls, August 5, at 11 a.m. at the age of 83. He came to America July 5, 1873 and was married to Mary Chappell in Minnok, Ill., Oct. 9, 1880. He lived for eleven years at Streeter, Ill., before moving to a farm near Fort Dodge where they resided for eleven years, leaving there for Estherville, March 8, 1902. Mr. and Mrs. Davies farmed near Estherville for ten years after which they moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where they made their home for twenty-six years.
Mr. Davies is survived by his wife, five children, Mrs. L.J. Bennett and Mrs. T.R. Pullen of Estherville, Mrs. Cora M. Shadle, Newton and Mrs. S.E. Bemis and Frank H. Davies of Harrisburg, South Dakota, also six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, August 8. 1939)
