J.M. Cummings Dies; Funeral on Wednesday
Paralytic Stroke is Cause of Death
J.M. Cummings, [Cumming] former Estherville resident, died from a paralytic stroke at 11:30 p.m. Friday at his home in Los Angeles. Mr. and Mrs. Cummings moved to California last September.Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Mahlum and Anderson chapel and at 2:30 p.m. at the Presbyterian church with the Rev. Claude Fausnaugh officiating. Interment will be at Oak Hill cemetery.
Mr. Cummings had been a resident of Estherville for many years and was a member of the Presbyterian church here. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, December 29, 1941)

Funeral Services for Well Known Estherville Man Who Died in Calif., Will Be Held Here
Estherville friends were grieved Saturday to learn of the death of J.M. Cummings [Cumming], former resident at his home in Los Angeles, Calif. His death occurred Friday evening at 11:30 following a paralytic stroke.The body is being returned to Estherville and funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock at the Mahlum and Anderson funeral home and 2:30 at the Presbyterian church with the Rev. Claude Fausnaugh in charge. Burial will be in the Oak Hill cemetery.
Mr. and Mrs. Cummings left Estherville last September to make their home in Los Angeles. Friends here had received Christmas messages from the couple and they were apparently enjoying the best of health although no particulars of his illness or death are available at this time.
Me. Cummings had been a resident of this community for many years and was one of our most beloved citizens. He was a member of the Presbyterian church here, taking an active part in all its organizations and activities. His quiet, unassuming, but [line missing] friend of everyone, both young and old.
