Heart Attacks Fatal to Estherville Couple
Mr. and Mrs. Willard Crim, well-known and longtime residents of Estherville and area, died this morning at their home, 227 N. 12th St., within minutes of each other, both deaths attribute to heart attacks.

Mrs. Crim’s death is believed to have occurred about 2:30 a.m. and Mr. Crim’s a few minutes later. He apparently was stricken returning to the couple’s bedroom after having telephoned a physician to come to the Crim home.

The physician had been at the Crim home at 1:30 a.m. to give Mrs. Crim medication after having been called by Mr. Crim. When she appeared to be better, he left and shortly before 2:30 Mr. Crim called him again saying that his wife had had another attack.

The physician at once summoned an ambulance to take Mrs. Crim to the hospital but before he had finished dressing Mr. Crim called again to tell him to hurry as Mrs. Crim was unconscious. When the doctor arrived at the Crim home minutes later he found both Mr. and Mrs. Crim dead. Mr. Crim was lying on the floor just inside the door of the bedroom where his wife was in bed.

Willard Crim and the former Esther J. Barrett were married May 21, 1913 and had spent their entire married life in Estherville and area.

After their marriage Mr. Crim was employed by the M. & St. L. Railroad until 1917 at which time the Crims started farming in the Ryan Lake area. In 1952 they retired from farming and moved to Estherville.

Both were members of First Methodist Church. Mrs. Crim was a member of the WSCS, of WSCS Circle No. 9, the Ryan Lake Country Club, Order of Eastern Star and White Shrine.

Mr. Crim was a 32nd degree Mason and a past master of North Star Lodge, No. 447, AF & AM.

Mrs. Crim was born Aug. 30, 1894 in Graettinger, the daughter of Mary and Otis Barrett. She received her education in the Graettinger schools.

Mr. Crim was born Nov. 7, 1891 in Estherville, the son of Albert and Eva Crim. He received his education in the local schools.

They are survived by a daughter, Mrs. Hogan (Ruby) Hoganson; two sons, Wayne and Vance, all of Estherville; and nine grandchildren.

Also surviving their deaths are Mrs. George H. (Nell) Robb, Estherville and Mrs. Clem Luikart, Minneapolis, sisters of Mr. Crim; and Leonard Barrett, Estherville, brother of Mrs. Crim.

Mrs. Crim was preceded in death by three brothers, Bert and Frank Barrett and one who died in infancy. Preceding Mr. Crim in death was one brother, Lloyd.

Funeral services for Mr. and Mrs. Crim are to be Wednesday at 2 p.m. in First Methodist Church, the Rev. William R. Noland officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Friends may call at Fuhrman Funeral Home all day Tuesday and until noon on Wednesday at which time the bodies will be taken to the church where friends may call until time of services. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, January 6, 1964)
