Allen Conlee
Estherville – Services for Allen R. Conlee, 72, Estherville, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the First Presbyterian Church, Estherville with Rev. Neal Armstrong of the Gruver Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Conlee died Wednesday, May 4, 1983 at Holy Family Hospital.

Friends may call at the Henry and Olson Funeral Home in Estherville after 2 p.m. today (Thursday).

He was born Aug. 11, 1910 at Warner, S.D., the son of Clarence and Mable (Stanton) Conlee. He grew up and attended school at Mandan, S.D., and finished high school at Flasher, S.D. He also attended Northern State College at Aberdeen, S.D. In 1938 he was married to Marie Hauge in Cresbard, S.D. Conlee worked for the International Harvester Co. in South Dakata before moving to Iowa City, where he was employed at a Montgomery Ward Farm Store as a manager; in 1947 the couple moved to Estherville where he worked for International Harvester Company until 1972 when he retired.

Conlee was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and was active in civic and community affairs. For six years he was Civil Defense Director of Emmet County; was active with Boy Scouts over 30 years; served as paraprofessional for four years. He was awarded the Silver Beaver award which is the highest award given to leaders of boy scouts. He was active in organizing the Estherville Flight Breakfast; also the Estherville Winter Sports Festival for which he was past co-chairperson and grand marshall. Conlee was named Estherville Citizen of the Year in 1961.

Survivors include his wife, Marie, Estherville; one daughter, Mrs. Jerald (Audrey) Johnson, Estherville; one son, Major Robert Conlee based at Andrews Airforce Base, Va. And at present in the Middle East for the peace talks and unable to come home; five grandchildren; one brother, Richard in California; one sister, Mrs. John (Frances) Roberts, Las Vegas, Nev.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, May 5, 1983)
