Marian Louise (Stanton) Clark of Estherville, IA, passed away peacefully at home on October 8, 2011. Marian was born November 2, 1923 in Alhambra, CA to Myron and Clara (Paddock) Stanton. She spent her childhood years learning trick riding on her pony, swimming, and playing with her little sister Helen (Stanton) Dean in Spencer, IA. She graduated from Spencer High in 1941 and studied Home Economics at ISU. She married Merrill Chilton Clark of Terrill, IA on Sept 9, 1943 in Kansas City, MO. Merrill was a Lt. Navigator in the Army Air Corps during WWII; after the war, Merrill and Marian moved to Florida where he attended U. of Miami Law School and enjoyed exploring the Keys. They then returned to Iowa, where Merrill practiced Law for 30 years. Marian and Merrill had 3 children: 1 son and 2 daughters.Marian was known for her generous spirit, her sense of adventure and her love of traveling and sports. She was on a water skiing team in Florida, an avid golfer, snow skier, hiker, and bird watcher - and rode a motorcycle with Merrill when they were in their late 50's. She visited all 50 states, including most of the Western National Parks, multiple art museums, as well as various trips to Scotland, England, France (esp. Paris), Italy, Hong Kong and Egypt. She loved the lakes and worked as a lifeguard for Fillenwarth's Beach in Arnolds Park. She loved following politics and worked for the election board. She was an avid reader and a regular patron of the library. She was a member of several bridge groups and supper clubs and she enjoyed hosting and attending coffees with her friends and neighbors. She was known for her quilting, gourmet cooking, baking and Christmas candies. She regularly attended the United Methodist Church in Estherville.
Marian was preceded in death by her parents; husband Merrill, daughter Yvonne and granddaughter Brenda Pilgram. She is survived by sister Helen (Stanton) Dean, son Merrill and daughter-in-law Irene (Rose) Clark (Yuma, AZ and Cheyenne, WY) and daughter Suzanne Clark and son-in-law Clifford Harbour (Laramie, WY). Other family members include four grandchildren (Michael M. Clark of Palm Springs, CA; Jeffery D. & Annie Clark of Weston, FL; Stacy C. Pilgram of Denver, CO; and Tina L. Pilgram (& Tucker Shaw) of Houston, TX) and four great granddaughters (Samantha and Kimberly Clark and Isabella and Angelina Clark). Beloved nieces and nephews include Rick, Barb, and Bob Dean of Spencer IA and Omaha, NB.
