Note: Raymond donated his body to science. Final remains were buried in the same grave as his wife Catherine.

ESTHERVILLE - Services for Raymond "Pete" Kiefer, 73, of Estherville, will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Estherville, with Father Tom Nash officiating. He died Thursday, Oct. 17, 1997 at Holy Family Health Services in Estherville. There will be no visitation. Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral home of Estherville is in charge of arrangements.

He was born March 12, 1924 at Estherville, the son of Martin and Rose (Bagan) Kiefer and received his education in the Estherville schools, graduating from high school in 1942. He also attended Estherville Junior College for two years.

He served 39 months in the United States Navy during World War Two. On October 22, 1949, he was united in marriage with Catherine Connolly in Elma, Iowa. The couple made their home in Estherville where they spent their entire married life. He was employed by the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier for forty years. He retired in 1986. He was a lifetime member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and VFW Post 3388 of Estherville.

Survivors include his wife Catherine of Estherville; sons: Tom of Omaha, Neb. and Joe of Estherville; daughters: Mrs. Keith (Frances Ann) Bollinger, Algona; and Mrs. Ramsay (Mary Alice) Sawaya of Maple Grove, Minn.; grandchildren: Elizabeth and Dan Kiefer, Jill Bollinger, Rachael and Christina Sawaya; sisters: Margaret Hoffman, Mason City, Marcella Osmundsen, Decorah and Helen O'Brien, Whitewater, Wis.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, John. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, October 18, 1997)
